Early Years Foundation Stage

At St Joseph's Catholic Academy, many children begin their Early Years journey age two in our Pre School.  Our Pre School children transition seamlessly into Nursery and on into Reception before moving into Year One.

Our priority for children in Early Years is for them to build trusting relationships with adults and peers so that they feel safe, secure and happy and are then able to learn.  Our Early Years staff have many, many years experience of supporting children to settle into school at whatever age or stage they arrive.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which includes the following areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts
  • Understanding of the World

As a Catholic school, our Early Years children also learn to know more about Jesus and His teachings by following the RE curriculum Learning and Growing as People of God.

Our two and three year old in Pre School may attend for half days or full days, term time only.  Our Nursery and Reception children attend for five full days, term time only. You can find out more about the costs and funding available for our children by contacting the school office.
